Plantation Families: People, Records and Resources

Dr Patricia Stewart, who did an amazing job transcribing the Great Parchment Book, is speaking at Plantation Families: People, Records and Resources, A Family and Local History Event on the Plantation of Ulster being held in Belfast and Derry ~ Londonderry on 27–28 September 2013.

The event is aimed at anyone interested in the Ulster Plantation of the early 17th century, a period of critical importance in the shaping of modern Ulster and Ireland.

The presentations in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) on 27 September will focus on the Plantation in Belfast and east Ulster while the sessions in the Tower Museum in Derry on 28 September will concentrate on Londonderry and the northwest.

The event will be chaired by Dr Sam Burnside and a host of renowned experts on the Plantation will speak at this one-off event, held in tribute to the life and work of R.J. (Bob) Hunter.

Programme Partners

The programme is organised by Ulster Historical Foundation in partnership with the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and the Derry City Council Heritage and Museum Service/Archive and Genealogical Service. The event is sponsored by the R.J. Hunter Committee which seeks to bring the work of the late Bob Hunter, and his in-depth studies on the Ulster Plantation, to the attention of a wider audience.

Registration

The event is free to attend and light refreshments and lunch will be provided on both days.

  1. The Great Parchment Book here on this website is a good start. I believe it was intended that the conference papers should be made more widely available. We will post when we have more information.

  2. Good afternoon, I’m doing research on some of my ancestors who I think may have been English settlers during the plantation of Ulster. I’m based in Australia and are wondering if these records are available online? Thankyou Karen

  3. Could I find any info on a family called Clephane, father was James from Scotland and granted 2000 acres Newton and Lislapp in 1609 and he put his 4 sons in place within this land but I’ve no idea where James came from or who his wife was or sons names ?
